Aftermath

sadpoet

After 21 days of rain, the skies cleared and I walked the shore.

The Aftermath of the sea’s battle with the world’s grief for you

was littered everywhere.

Driftwood launched onto broken roads,

Caution signs.

A foamy sea that could swallow me whole.

And waves.

Waves as big as mountains crashing and spraying

me as I stared unmoved into them.

The weight of the waves landing on my soul and never leaving.

The weight of you.

I grab the sand as if

I can put together the pieces of my broken heart back together again

building sand castle monuments for you.

But the sand slips through my fingers and it’s falling

falling

and I can’t put my heart back together again.
