The not special

R.J.Stone

They're alone now,

Hiding from it all.

Every second solemnly slugging by,

Never allowing them to fade away,

Ostracism.

That we just watched as

Soldiers flood across the border.

Perhaps ignorant to it all.

Every second solemnly slugging by.

Cause death's no salvo

Instead the only path to hell,

A mirage of yellow and blue that,

Leaves blood to turn to dust.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is meant to represent the futility of warfare, how it has been glorified by society and the pain that has caused: not only for those caught up in such conflict but for all of us. As a 15-year-old schoolboy, I have grown up watching my society crumble apart through constant turmoil and agony (whether that be through the remnants of the Afghan war or the invasion of Ukraine) and know that is the responsibility of a few good people to stand up for the moral values that we once held dear. That is our duty as poets. That is our duty as people.

I like your commentary and agree with it's sentiments.

Why not express that in your short punchy poem. Make the message immediately clear....

I hope you enjoy your stay at MPS. It would be good if you could continue to post, read and respond to other's poems and comments.
