Hopeless Romantic (A Poem on Valentine’s Day)

AuburnScribbler

Love is deaf,

love is blind,

it’s no surprise, they can’t be kind,

as love is greed,

love is war,

see them squirm, upon the floor,

as their love drives,

and their love boosts,

in themselves, they forget their roots,

for love’s a cover,

love’s peer pressure,

as with their fear, they play together,

for love sows the seed,

love’s the hope,

are they sure, that the Earth would cope?

as love occupies,

love is vicious,

they’ve got to submit, to receive those kisses,

as love is messy,

love is pain,

their bad decisions, a prolonged refrain,

as love’s a song,

love’s a tribute,

it is something, that they can’t refute,

thus, love’s a whip,

love’s a master,

see the slaves, crawl to disaster,

though, love is here,

love is no trick,

so, let’s all be; hopeless romantic.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I thought I would write a seasonal poem on Valentine’s day, so here’s a somewhat begrudging, reflective poetic rant, on the concept of “romantic love”, and humanity’s frustrating definition of it. If you are nicely coupled, I hope both of you have a nice Valentine’s day, and to my fellow singletons, (especially those who are feeling the particular loneliness of the day), endeavour to give yourselves double the love. I hope that you enjoy the poem, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

I'm not good on the topic of love, so despite the fact that it was you, AS, I almost gave it a miss....do stay safe yourself....

Thanks for the read Doggerel Dave, glad that you stopped by; regardless the above.

I hope that all is well!

If we could somehow understand the multifacted, ever changing face of love, as you so aptly describe it, we might hold the keys to the universe. Love is ever changing, ever growing, ever leaving. Little did Winston Churchill know when he said "An enigma wrapped in a mystery" he was talking about love. I certainly enjoyed this write dear friend, well done!

Thanks for the read Bella, I'm glad that you enjoyed this write, and I really do hope; that over time, more clarity and fairness can be poured into this most potent and important of things.

I hope that all is well!
