The Paper Girl

athora13

She's a wanderer

A soul lost among the millions

But today

In the quiet afternoon she is not

For she is in one place

Where she can feel at home

Millions of souls surround her

Some are adventuring

Others are falling in love

No matter what they are doing within their stories

They are home

They beckon and call to her as birds call to the sky

Here in this, she has wings

She has freedom

No longer shackled by the chains of mortality

 Or

By the restrictions of human laws

She can live forever

Be forever

Through these books

For as long as she can remember

Books have been there

Honestly helped raise this girl

She has decided to give back

She begins to write her own stories

Poems

She wants to give to the world

What all other authors have given her: hope

Watching her favorite heroines make it through their most trying times

Has helped her to see that she can as well

That all the trials she faces are not in vain

For if they can survive

Dragons

Witches

Starvation

Depression

A myriad more challenges

Then so can she

Through these pages

She can see that it is not impossible

She wants to share pieces of herself

The way others do

She will live forever through her words

Encase the lessons that have been ingrained

In her heart

Into paper and ink

So that in the future

Someone

Somewhere

Will

Hear or read

Her words

A change they will feel

A change in their heart

Sometimes so profound as she has often felt

Other times a more subtle change

That makes the trajectory for who that person will become

No matter what kind of change

She causes, she knows it will have meaning

Be impactful

This girl understands that it's not the big things

That make a difference but

The small things

The small smile that made someone's day

The apology that saved someone from the edge of a knife

They seem so small

To many people

They are not

Books

Stories

Words

Have revealed this to the girl over and over

You can do a million big things

They will never measure up to what

A million small things can do

If this girl has learned anything

Throughout her life it's this:

You cannot accomplish anything big

Without first accomplishing something small

By putting in the small work

It eventually adds up to a

Beautiful

Big

Product

But first it has to be

Small

As someone who too loves reading, I find this really relatable
