The one that got away.

James Stinson

She asked me for poetry

l said l was sorry

So l offered a story instead

She sat on a chair

I can picture her there

And the way that she tilted her head

My story was long

It was more like a song

Or a tune that you hear in the night

When you're longing for sleep

All the secrets you keep

That are wrong (but you thought they were right)

I could feel my heart beating

As it offered a greeting

It was plenty but never enough

When you left in the morning

Without any warning

You were gone with a bag filled with.....stuff

You were still on the stair

I witnessed you there

So l sat on the step but we knew

That the loving was over

We had both blown our cover

It was done, it was gone, it was through

I saw you one evening

I think l was leaving

To walk by the light of the moon

When l turned you had gone

I was never the one

We both danced to a different tune

I think of you dearly

I remember you clearly

There's another has taken your place

She has filled up the void

That your leaving destroyed

But l never stop seeing your face.
