A Christ and a Buddha in our own time
One man against governments and religion
As close as you get to the divine
He promoted unity not division
One man that changed the world for all time
In the midst of strife
He was the conscience for all mankind
He was prepared to give his life
“I am a Muslim, and a Hindu,
and a Christian and a Jew
and so are all of you”
Nonviolence for peace he would barter
He used peace to fight violence and won
He died impoverished, as a martyr
Known as the father of India, its peaceful son

Without in anyway attempting to diminish Christ and Buddha, Gandhi should be elevated, as you have done, to a more significant part of our culture today. Thanks, Soren.
Thank you Dave for your review and comment
All must know clearly that-
Mrs Sonia Gandhi,
Mr Rahul Gandhi
Mrs Priyanka Gandhi
have no connection with that great martyr Mahatma Gandhi!
Mrs Indira Priyadarshini married a gentleman named Feroz Gandhi and so she inherited the title "GANDHI" and her sons and grandchildren are called with that title.
Countless Indian leaders fought for freedom and even suffered under the British regime by sacrificing their liberty, mammoth wealth and dignity.
Gandhi wasn't the sole individual for this freedom. Many poets, writers and freedom fighters died and were hunted by the Englishmen. More than saying Gandhi united Hindus and Muslims, we can say the urge to get freedom united them. Gandhi started to behave oddly after freedom and favored Muslims beyond the limit that led to his assassination. He said if a Muslim raped a Hindu woman, let us forgive him. Many freedom fighters died to get the precious freedom and Gandhi was instrumental.
Thank you so much for elucidating this. I think my intent was not to deny the contribution of others or even to portray facts but, as the title hints, that this is the way that myths are created, on the embellished and simplified views of certain historical figures. Thank you so much for your review and comments.
The Spirit gives life, the flesh counts for nothing.
Thank you for your insightful comment
Dear friend this is breathtakingly beautiful in verse and truth. Ghandi was living proof that nonviolent resistance brings change that endures the test of time, as we have seen it repeated by others who also understood its power. Thank you for this wonderful tribute, may his example contine to inspire and transform.
Thank you Bella for your always welcome comments and review. Yes the world needs this type of archetype and model.
Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bow to your wisdom
my cherished friend!
(Crazy to realise
Ghandi, breathed the same air
as Hitler, same era
His letter to Hitler, I still remember
here, is that paradox
Two sides of humanity's, warped coin
'Civil Disobedience'
David Thoreau, inked it
Ghandi, lived it!)
Thank you L. B. for the read and most generous comments. He left this world just before I entered so unfortunately he became history and myth in my book of life. Never the less, much more recent than any other legends.
