Don't trust residential streets

Norman Flagtea

Don't trust residential streets

with tree names,

Maple Crescent or Chestnut Drive.

You don't want to be caught dead

in one of those.

Also avoid towns

with liquids in their names:

Green River, Roaring Falls or Sweetwater.

Better stick to New York

or fight your way through Detroit.

You might even

find the love of your life

in Des Moines.

I know this is humorous, but haven't enough knowledge of the culture to figure it all out.
    Any chance of an explanation?

    so unique, exemplary
art as our validation of quirky
    such a tongue twister
to read out loud, thank you!
