Mama Said

Bella Wren

Mama said, "Boys are the devil you hear?"

and I just shook my head.

"They will hurt you n' use you my dear!"

and still I shook my head.

"You keep them legs closed real, real tight."

and I just pushed the thought away.

"And if their hands move close you fight!"

and still I pushed the thought away.

He promised that he wouldn't hurt me though,

and I opened up my heart.

He promised that he was different than those.

yet he still broke my heart.

He snuck and wiggled his way into my bed.

mom's voices I heard in mind.

I listened as hard as I could, still I bled.

this pain I can't rewind.

    really well written
if we could but heed, the wisdom
of those who've lived through it all
    how much suffering
could we bypass, of life's accursed
    growing pains..
    thanks for sharing, dear poet
hope you don't waste too much time
on that worthless imitation of a man
I promise, we're not all monsters
    you just need to recognise
    those warning signs..
'if it looks n sounds, too good
to be true: RUN and save your
    heart...!'
