Solitary Bliss

Umar Farouq

In my own solitary I have learned
A myriad of things, so entangled
That can't be found in any book on my shelf.
A puzzle, not many can comprehend,
And solve even in donkey's years to come.

In my own space I have found
Comfort at its peril, beyond words,
And The elegance of a wolf that is not part of a pack.
The power that comes with embracing solitude,
And taming the fear of missing out.

In the dead of night I have seen
Beyond what many eyes can behold.
I have felt, in every nerve
The twinge and pleasure of the cold and deafening silence.

Amidst the deafening silence,
Where the company of no soul is present,
And the melancholy is a far cry from being over,
It's in the Lord's company I find peace,
For He listens, and heals; and bestows upon me
The joy and favour I need.
And verily, there's no greater feeling in the whole world than that.
