Fear. Miedo. Peur.
Fear is what keeps us up at night.
Nightmares like flashing images through our minds.
Our eyes shutter, our hearts thud, our breaths become louder.
Those head-splitting nightmares.
They tie around our necks like a cord, gripping tighter and tighter.
It stops the air from your lungs.
Breath, breath, breathe.
Try to breathe.
We lose ourselves in the face of fear; it grasps at our goals, our aims, our families, and friends.
Fear is everywhere.
Invisible.
Inevitable.
Insatiable
I fear life.
I fear death.
I fear everything.
The dark shadows of terror In the night, that taunt us under our duvets.
The monsters under our beds, lurking, eager to strike.
The things in movies that cause us a temporary fright.
Our worst fears come to life.
They creep and crawl into our beautifully broken minds.
We try to block them out, knowing that they can’t really taint us.
These fears aren’t worth the fuss.
We fall into patterns, our minds trick us.
We are not afraid. Not really.
We sit.
We try to face it.
Imaginary.
It’s all in my head.
For, still, I am not dead.
If I am not dead, is it all in my head?

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem discusses everyday fears that people have, and how sometimes we can trick ourselves into thinking, 'is this in my head'. I like writing about this distinction between what could be reality and what could be imaginative.

Now look, all ya gotta fear is if I start singing! heehee. Worse than two cats fighting. If only that was only fear, things would look better. lol.
