Sugar Is Sweet

charles69

As we went about our easy chores
We dreamed of love and candy stores
The man on the street has nothing to say
And the rotten smell takes your breath away
The neighbors' boy thinks he's so cool
They don't trust anyone who's finished school
Little sister wants a car, I want a mule

Each day that passes brings a little more pain
We watch and listen but there's no train
We have a hiding place way back in the pines
I hope Daddy is willing to pay his fines
The price for fun is out of sight
If asked to sing, I guess I might
Your answer is correct, but it isn't right

It seems everbody acts the same
We care for the sick, we care for the lame
I'm getting tired of the governor making excuses
Maybe someday it'll be our friend who loses
The sky may be grey, the sky may be blue
The old folks' talk is nothing new
Sugar is sweet and so are you
