Oh please say there’s a book somewhere
leant up against an upright chair
where sits a man with solemn air
who does what he must do.
Oh, please say in this distant land
this solemn man with careful hand
writes in the book and understand
all that he writes is true.
And please say he sees everything,
each tiny waif, each mighty king
and swear his diligence will bring
to all what they are due.
Oh, please say that this does exist,
this solemn man with endless list,
ensuring nothing’s ever missed
and nothing’s paid in lieu.
And please say justice will prevail,
this book succeeds where humans fail
so those who leave a sordid trail
will not now jump the queue,
whilst those who’re barely recognized
will be esteemed and highly prized,
their hopes and dreams now realized,
about to start anew.
Oh solemn man if you’re out there
and if you do define what’s fair
then I can rise from mute despair
and change my point of view.
My purpose now will be quite clear,
I’ll live a life devoid of fear,
relying just on you to steer
my vessel safely through.
Oh, solemn man this might seem odd,
I’m grateful for the path you trod,
but please don’t say your name is God
I don’t believe in you.

i like the imagery and the ending is satisfyingly unexpected 🙂
Thanks for the encouragement, I appreciate it.
It's hidden in the pages, a book for all ages. No one is excused, deny, you lose.
