Blood of Life

Smit (Vahi 'Agyat')

In silence and solitude, it begins,

A natural cycle of womanhood.

A flow of blood, a sacred hymn

A process of renewal misunderstood!

In many cultures, it is a taboo,

A hidden secret kept from sight.

Yet it’s a vital part of who you are,

A necessary function to bring life.

For every month, it comes again,

A cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.

A reminder of your strength within

Your bodies, a temple, a sacred earth.

It can bring pain, discomfort, and strife

But it’s also a symbol of your power.

A sign of your potential to give life,

A monthly reminder of the miracle flower.

For every drop of blood that flows,

A testament to the cycle of growth,

The beauty of nature, in its highs and lows,

A reminder of the power you hold

So let us celebrate this cycle of life.

Embrace the power of your femininity.

Let us end the stigma and the strife,

And reclaim your true divinity.

For YOU are the blood of life itself,

A force to be reckoned with, a power to wield.

Let us embrace your bodies and your health,

And let your truth be revealed!

  • Comment from author about the poem: In India (from where I am) and in many cultures, Menstruation is still a big taboo! Most of the people don't talk either of shame or they feel this is impure in some way!!! This poem is NOT only for females but for all humans!

While I have absolute respect for the way you address a sometimes difficult subject (also the polish and strength of your poetry) I have just the vaguest unease when it comes to advice from a male to a female with respect to such an intimate part of their bodies….. (But again I do accept your intention to direct it at ‘all humans’.)
