Survived By

sadpoet

Summarizing your life in four paragraphs is

like capturing the sea in an hourglass;

as if the vastness of the ocean can fit in a

timebound glass container.

Words feel insignificant because they won’t ever

live up to who you were.

How can subjects and verbs and adjectives strung together ever

replace you?

Preceded in death by many.

Survived by us.

Is this surviving?

Because every moment I gasp for each breath

hoping

it breathes life back into you.

(as long as we remain, reaching out
    in our yearning fingertips
and the echoes of our memories
they remain, a part of us
in that alone, we're afforded a path
    to acceptance...)
    stay strong! dear poet
    I'm sorry for your loss
