Friend

Debake

day by day, my dearest friend
I live with renewed friendship
simply in texts one by one to send
week by week and trip after trip

you and I, I visit once and you the next
friends still, as the earth spins round and round
kept in touch, even though others were perplexed
friends through the deepest, silence and darkest sound

year by year, time marches on
even though with time some things change
friends always, even after we're gone
day by week by year, memories now strange

remembrance we have both now and in the future
but still, in the present are we now living
rushed in the past, it was just me, now me and her
the future uncertain but time wasted unforgiving

our friendship an eye in the life storm
round and round, the wind rushing
problems and biases swarm
but in you, I find my peaceful blessing

so, in rhymes closing, I wish, simply to say
thank you for being my closest friend
thank you for being with me here and alway
and I promise to be your calm till the end

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this poem about my best friend, who is like the other half of my soul, the water to my rain or the heat to my flame. Please comment if you have someone out there like this for you because when life is getting you down, they end up being the reason you continue to breathe.
