The Living Oak Tree

Cheyenne Smith

Over one hundred years ago, an 11-year-old girl planted an oak tree

Over the next few years, the tree grew tall and high

Eventually, the tree reached up to the dazzling blue sky

The tree boasts many thousands of leaves, each leaf elegant in mother natures vibrant green

The tree is not even a third of the way through its long yet amazing life

It had lived through the war, through The Queen's coronation and so much more

This tree is one of the lucky one's, still a living tree acting as the earth's lungs

Time has passed and things have moved and changed but the graceful tree has remained the same and has always existed in one place

The girl who planted the tree grew up and passed

The young boy who played on the tree 30 year's later is also no longer alive

Yet the Oaktree is still around

Swaying its leaves, helping us breath

The tree will hopefully exist long after we die

staying in the same place and feeling alive
