The Different Light We See: Embracing Neurodiversity

OatMilkLatte

In a world that spins around,

I often feel like I'm bound

To rules and patterns that I can't break

A world that's hard for me to take

I see the world in a different light

Details and nuances in my sight

The noise and crowds overwhelm

Making it hard for me to subsist

My brain's a library, vast and wide

information flowing, never to subside

I struggle to filter and prioritize

As thoughts and feelings collide

Social interactions are a challenge

Small talk and gestures hard to manage

I may seem rude or indifferent

But I'm just trying to make sense

I crave routine and structure

predictability is my anchor

Changes and surprises. hard to endure

And may cause my mind to falter

But amidst the struggles and the strife

I see the world in a different life

With unique strengths and abilities

A different kind of sensibility

So lets embrace our differences

And see them as our strengths and defenses

For in this diverse and complex world

We all have a story to be told

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was very emotional for me to write because this has been struggles I have faced every single day of my life and still today. I'm trying to come to terms that its okay to be different, and I want others to feel its okay too.

    I laud your bravery!
    and witness your worth!
    stay strong! dear poet
    may you find acceptance
in that all knowing and forgiving
    mirror
    all else, is sensation's
    gust of wind, decorations..
    live your truth!
