There's an upturned canoe on my drive
Been there for far to long
The prow is held in by weeds
Its been away from the water too long.
The river always gave me freedom
A time to connect and enjoy
I've no idea where my paddle is
My canoe is a discarded toy.
So I sit on the step, and I smoke
Yeh , I know its improper
But I sit on the step and I remember
Where the hell did it go so wrong
I used to have time to wander
To paddle my own canoe
Same stretch of river
But everyday something new
So there's an upturned canoe on my drive
But I've put roof bars back on my car

I really enjoyed reading your poem! The imagery you created with the upturned canoe and the weeds was powerful, and it really set the tone for the rest of the piece. I could feel the speaker's sense of loss and longing for the freedom they once felt on the river. The ending with the roof bars on the car was a great touch, giving hope that maybe the speaker will find their way back to the water. Overall, your writing style flowed well and made for a really engaging read. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the time you have taken to comment. Really appreciate the feedback, and yes I will rediscover the river.
