UnderThe Mango Tree

SIMEON A. OYEKANMI

Under The Mango Tree

Under the mango tree, I sit and ponder,

In its shade, my restless soul finds peace.

I wonder if life’s purpose we must squander.

The tree’s branches sway and seem to conjure

A melody that speaks of life’s increase.

Under the mango tree, I sit and ponder.

The fruit it bears, a gift we cannot launder

Nor can we buy its flavour or release.

I wonder if life’s purpose we must squander.

Its roots run deep, its trunk a powerful wonder,

Surviving drought and rain, it won’t decrease.

Under the mango tree, I sit and ponder.

It stands as a witness to our acts of wonder,

As we live and die, it grants us sweet release.

I wonder if life’s purpose we must squander.

So I sit and gaze, my thoughts begin to wander,

As I seek the truth, my mind seeks its release.

Under the mango tree, I sit and ponder,

I wonder if life’s purpose we must squander.
