In God we trust

sorenbarrett

Brothers and sisters come on in

To the church that takes away your sin

Money is the root of all evil

Give it to us for your reprievel

Be sure that before you go out that door

You empty your pockets on the floor

We can sell you a heavenly home

So up there you won't have to roam

What! You don't have money enough?

We'll sell you a chair? We're not so tough

The more you pay the closer to God you can sit

Beats the hell out of sitting down in the pit

Raise your hand if you have no money

Though everyone is looking at you, don't feel funny

We'll lend you a coin to put in our plate

You can pay us back with interest, we'll wait

How would you like a personal meeting with God?

All you have to do is give us your wad

He's a busy man and in high demand

So if the cost is a little high I'm sure you'll understand

About your meeting, we let him know

It's not our fault that he didn't show

What? You say that this is a fraud

Don't sue us, you'll have to sue God

  • Comment from author about the poem: I've been to a lot of churchs in my day, but one that I rented a room to took the cake. Without exaggeration or exception they made every offer above.

Have you been to any other religious buildings

    • sorenbarrett

Many indeed, all over the US, and Brazil. All types of Christian denominations, Jewish temples, Nature worship. Thanks for the review

      • Ok Waleed

Do they all feel the same?

      • Doggerel Dave

I'm not defending the buggers, I am after all an atheist and agnostic. But all I can add is that there are rogues and villains in every corner and strata of society all institutions as well, plus the good 'uns.

Notice on wall of a motor cycle shop populated by big boofy characters:

"In God we trust - Others cash"

All the same, a very enjoyable read, Soren. Good laugh.

So true Dave. I too not a traditional believer by any means of the imagination think all have a right to believe as they wish. I do find amusement in the beliefs of some. I have attended all types of churches and religions but it upsets me some to watch the poor, naïve, disabled be taken advantage of in the name of "God". This write, was more out of astonishment at how far some would go.

          Good observation.

Why yes, some places this is true.
You'll get 'The Lord will provide'. Yep, from OUR pockets, as they keep nagging us for more cash.
A church took on some students as 'official' members, with a secret rubbing hands together in glee, behind the scenes, I expect. Now, when have students ever had lots of money? Doh!

            • sorenbarrett

Thanks orchidee. I'm not against anyone's beliefs but sure am adverse to the weak being taken advantage of. They say that it is just nature, survival of the strongest, but I still like to help a fallen bird.

              Soooo....... was I right?
I left one church partly due to money matters.
A friend has just left a church of the same denomination, as they got greedy for cash.

                Aw - you are just a tight A, orchi......😇!!!

                • orchidee

Oohh, you can join 'em! They want over a million!

there are 'start-up' churches for Pets, nowadays...
                  enough said, lol
                  a fun read, dear Poet
                  indeed
money has a way of warping things, still
places of worship will always have the most refurbished buildings
that's good for the economy, at least..
keeping it fun is how to traverse
                  those diabolical elements of society

                  • sorenbarrett

Thank you L.B. Years ago I was driving through the bible belt of the United States and saw a sign saying "Good God Church" I couldn't but wonder if there was a "Bad God Church" and found myself looking for that sign. I do look at religions with a sense of humor but feel agrivated when I see them take advantage of those that place their fait in them. Thanks for the comments friend.

                      yeah, that the saddest part
religion's recruit aside drug dealers and gangs these days
to lost youth and those desperate in jails or ICU units
                      their 'goodwill charity' deeds
a transaction for gain in that 'selective' heaven they believe in
while their dogma works to alienate more n more people
but, it's important we refute their divisive antics
                      all humanity is one
differences in beliefs or ideals, merely aesthetics
constantly being enraged or upset, only hurts ourselves
even queens and kings, can only influence
their only little corner of the world
we can but do our little bit, when opportunity arrives
                      empathise as much we can
but be mindful, to keep our heart's light
and cherish what smiles we're gifted,
trying to change the world to our way of thinking
                      is a futile endeavour
best to try n flow, as part of our world
while being removed enough, to still
                      appreciate it, I think..
                      (but what do i know
                      lol
                      forgive my rant dear friend)
