thank you letter

Thank You!

for teaching me to flip at every wall

despite the searing of my shoulders;

that the sound waves of my pain

must be muffled by chlorinated water.

for the nights that I spent thrashing my legs,

slipping my hands into the liquid void

for my path was reduced to the Black Line,

six feet below the surface, whispering

that the hundredth of a second matters

more than my years of burning sacrifice.

  • Comment from author about the poem: a love letter to the career of my adolescence. in all honestly, ive made some of the best memories a swimmer, but the relationship i have built with the sport is mixed.

    (Read your 'About Me') Know what you want to say first, and then choose the medium with which to say it. - - an opinion, not advice.

    Enjoy your stay at MPS. It is an interactive space, and works best if we not only read but comment on other's work and respond to comments on your own.
