Mello

The self and the mind, they coexist,

One is the being, the other the noise,

The self is the stillness, the mind is the whirl,

Together they dance, like girls and boys.

The self is the truth, the mind is the thought,

One is the calm, the other the storm,

The self is the anchor, the mind is the wave,

Together they flow, like bees and swarm.

The self is the light, the mind is the shade,

One is the clarity, the other the blur,

The self is the harmony, the mind is the discord,

Together they sing, like bird and whir.

The self and the mind, they interweave,

One is the essence, the other the voice,

The self is the being, the mind is the noise,

Together they make, the symphony of choice.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The self generally refers to our sense of personal identity, which includes our beliefs, values, and personality traits. It is the core of who we are as individuals, and it is what gives us a sense of continuity over time. The self can be thought of as the observer of our thoughts and emotions, the one who experiences our experiences. On the other hand, the mind can be seen as the collection of mental processes that allow us to think, perceive, and feel. It includes everything from our conscious thoughts and emotions to our unconscious instincts and habits. The mind is a complex and ever-changing system that can produce both positive and negative thoughts and emotions. The "ever talking noise" that is often associated with the mind. This refers to the constant chatter of thoughts that can run through our heads, even when we are not actively trying to think about anything in particular. This noise can be distracting and overwhelming, and it can make it difficult to focus on the present moment.
