Some people call me a poet
And I don't want to say it's a lie
Because there is a poet inside of me
But I am not he
Nor he I.
You see
I have seen what this poet has written
I've felt the sting of his tear in my eye
So the poet in me and I cannot agree
That I could be he
Or he I.
I have seen more than my share of failure
Wiped the sweat from another failed hope
Had my dreams dashed right before me
And felt despair every time I was broke.
To tell the truth it's been quite a struggle
What would you do if you're in my place?
When the poet in me asks that I set him free
But I'm afraid of the failure we'd face.
I have seen many people with talent
Some of whom have extraordinary skill
And I've taken a look at this poet in me
And I'm afraid that is just how I feel.
It is the poet in me who has courage
For without him I won't even try
So to tell you the truth
There is a poet in me
But I am not he
Nor he I.

I love this! Sometimes when I write a sit back and wonder where the poet in me gets the courage to write such things. Thank you for sharing.
"Hanging by a halo"
What an absolutely beautiful name.
May the courage in you come shining through
Until only the poet in you remains.
And just like me
You have to set them free
Whenever the poet cannot be restrained.
And it's then
And only then
When the definition of poetry is explained.
Who gives songs in the night; Who teaches us more then the beasts of the earth, And makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
I often hear the angels singing
When I'm alone on a starry night.
And He who teaches "the beasts of the earth"
Lies just beyond my sight.
But you've asked the poet in me a question
"Who makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?"
Let me make a suggestion without any question
He who said, "but, Until seventy times seven."
Good stuff. I like rhyming. Your poem delivers a point cleverly. Otherpoets here will enjoy this. - Phil A.
I've mended a lot of fences
Throughout all the days of my life.
The "Good stuff" I'll be rhyming
Has been reserved for my wife.
And although it may sound clever
I just write those things I see
If other poets here will enjoy this
Phil, I hope they like -The poet in me
This is a great piece, I think that every poet struggles with this my friend.
You are a great one, never give up
I find all Poetry to be most beautiful...
Well... maybe really not... all poetry...
Let's say most...
From E.A. Poe to Jim Morrison, even... Children's poetry.
I believe there must be a poet... inside many of us...
People with... Extraordinary skill...
Well... matter of opinion really.
Some may like... even many... doesn't mean everyone.
Some people like... Meters in verses... and stanzas or whatever... sonnets...
Fine by me.
Mathematic perfection, any kind of... perfection...
Doesn't very much appeal to me.
I enjoy more... sort of free-style poetry and writing.
A bit... like Jim did.
In my humble opinion...
And some may share or not...
One of the greatest poets, ever.
And... yours is a good poem.
I enjoy it. Keep at it.
