If I Just Had Enough Money

charles69

Come here and let me tell you
About my desperate situation
About how I'm gettin' a hard knocks education
I just worry and worry
Nothing anymore seems funny
But everything would be ok, If I just had enough money

My wife can't work
You know today it takes two
The rent and other bills are long overdue
I just worry and worry
I can't laugh and act funny
But everything would be ok, if I just had enough money

Don't worry about things like your heavenly salvation
Just keep on prayin' for help
In your present situation

Now there may be ways
To make more dough
Like winning a lottery or at the casino
No problem's too big for me and my sweet honey
And everything would be ok, if we just had enough money

Yeah, money solves all kinds of problems
The relief it gives is real
But to get enough today
You've almost got to beg or steal

Now it's true, that some folks
Have it easier than others
And one of the lucky is my rich, stingy brother
He has no problems, everything is just funny
And we could all be like him, if we just had enough money

Maybe instead of one job
I just oughta work two
And give up some of the pleasures
That me and the wife once knew
Our life today really ain't funny
But everything would be ok, if we just had enough money

You get my full empathy here. Povery is shit - been there, done that. Not there now.

The temptation here is to go political, but there's enough of that in my other stuff if you need reinforcement.

Thoroughly enjoyed a well writ piece, Charles.

It was great to hear from you DD. I have learned a lot from your poems and comments. I think you could, and maybe have written something about the same sort of thing. I would immensely enjoy
reading it if you have. The "Doggeral" in your user name not really apt; you have a lot of common sense wisdom and maybe the academic also. In many ways you remind me of poets like Robert
Burns, Robert W Service, and Rudyard Kipling. Publish something when you have the oppurtunity.
      thanks, Charles69

Thanks for that endorsement, Charles - even if it was a bit over the top! Can't think any of those poets you mention would want to be identified with me, and perhaps vice versa. I have many ideas and observations of the world gathered over eighty one years, and the best medium to express them seems via rhymed pieces. Further, the discipline as per my 'About me' on my home page hopefully keeps my mind active in these latter years.....

crazy, I too have known hunger
        so can relate
        but some have hunger pains
        as their daily rewards
        for working twelve hour shifts;
        so many pitfalls in life
money is a factor, to so much
        misery, in the world
still, while you have your 'honey'
        try to remember
        you already have one treasure
        that money can't buy...
hope your luck changes for the better
        sooner than later, dear poet
        till then, fight to find
        your gifted smiles in life
        and cherish
even those brief moments of reprieve or relief
        stay strong!
