Poetry

Dr. Soma

I never thought I could write a single line of poetry in life.

But when I met you, I could not see anything, just your eyes.

Knowing, unknowingly, my inner myself formed a poet.

Whatever I felt, all became poetry.

Such a new feeling, a new world, where I was the queen, and my words were my best friends for conveying my messages to him.

Since then, my words didn't stop.

Every day comes to me with new dreams,

I feel words are being arranged to form poetry.

As the words are ready to play, sing, and love to each other in this ambiance.

Poetry is just a medium.

No matter where we live, no matter how far we are,

But words can reach out to our feelings as poetry and remain forever, whether we live or die.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Sometimes one cannot express love orally. Feelings can convey to each other with words like poetry.

Because there are no names the reader is not engaged. The reader doesn't know who is talking to whom and why.

My comments on the poem "Poetry” by Dr Soma
    E. M. W. TILLYARD ON JOHN MILTON (1608-1674).
“(…) It is because Milton owned, some might even say was obsessed by another quality which according to taste, can be labelled idealism, conscience, fastidiousness, pride, or a perfection-complex. There is evidence that at the age of twenty-one Milton dedicated himself, before God, to poetry. Certainly, he took the poetic profession with extreme seriousness, and he refused to allow any work to see the light that he did not consider to be the best he was good for, at the age when he wrote it. You don’t find poetry : it is poetry that finds you…

You were destined to become a poetess, or, more precisely, the poetess in you came out at the time that it should.

“Whatever I felt, all became poetry” : Everything about the poet is poetry.

“I feel words are being arranged to form poetry” : Poetry falls into place by itself.

“But words can reach out to our feelings as poetry and remain forever, whether we live or die” :

See : "De la difficulté à faire rimer poésie et identité." "WEEK-END" newspaper, Mauritius, 6 July, 1997, (page 33).

    * "(.....) ”Poets are immortal, they take us to the frontier of the infinite,” says at the very beginning James Burty David. For him, we must not think that the imaginary is disorderly, for even in this apparent disorder, there is a structured language." (…)”

Thank you for accepting my friendship. Soman Ragavan. 9 July, 2023. //
