Dissociation

bertblack

In a world that's all too much to bear
Sometimes the mind decides to disappear
To split itself into fragments small
And hide away from the pain and all

Dissociation is the mind's escape
From memories too hard to take
A way to numb the hurt and fear
And keep the psyche from falling apart here

But in the long run, it's not a cure
For the pain and trauma will endure
And though it may help the mind survive
It leaves a sense of emptiness inside

The self becomes a puzzle to solve
As memories and emotions evolve
And the fragments that once were whole
Now feel like strangers without a role

Yet in the darkness, there's still hope
For healing and learning how to cope
With the parts of oneself that are lost
And finding a way to reconnect the dots

It's a journey that takes time and care
To integrate the fragments and repair
The self that's been shattered and torn
But with patience and love, it can be reborn

For in the end, the self is strong
And can withstand what's been done wrong
And though the journey may be hard
It's a path to a brighter, better yard.
