Margairetta I sing to you

David Wakeling

Margairetta I sing to you alone,
Within you rests  my  reprieve.
I beg forgiveness unbeknown,
I’m a wanton man who would deceive.

I plucked the petals of your life,
Destroying the beautiful flower that you were,
I created you as an invisible wife.
Someone who was not really there.

I loved your exquisite hands,
How you spent hours on your fingernails,
They were blood red and passionate pink brands,
I adored how you cared for all the details.

But I have murdered the child in you,
And found myself alone on a barren desert,
Unable to earn the forgiveness you knew,
Left only with my pain and hurt.

Can you ever exonerate my sin,
Can the rain wash away all strife,
Please calm the panther that is under  my skin,
Please forgive me Margairetta, my life.
