dancing in the dark
was all i did for as long as i can remember
spinning and turning with you
barefoot in the grass
under summer’s night sky
we never finished our song that night
i remember how i so suddenly awoke to
S
C
R
E
A
M
S
so awful, spiteful
they interrupted our song mid-chorus
they still echo inside my head
keep me up at night
i wonder if you
still hear them
like i do
lately they’ve become more and more faint
i want to forget
i
try
to
forget.
but i know
we were not meant to be
forgotten
we were magical
we were careless whispers, swept away in the summer breeze
with no intention of reaching the ground
we were silhouettes, slipping into the shadows with ease
with no intention of being found
but somewhere in the chaos long ago
my hand slipped out of yours
but d i s t a n c e is relative
and so is time
so surely, we could go back to yesterday if
only i got our record to play?
i’d make sure
nothing
interrupts us this time,
or
ever again,
but
after all of this,
would you take my hand
and dance with me
tonight?
