I Don't Wanna Work Anymore

charles69

I never had a job I liked
Or one that was cool
Although I've been working
Ever since I left school
I never got ahead
I don't know what I worked for
Now I wanna have some fun
I don't wanna work anymore

I've been told many times
You have to work to eat
But that ain't true today
Food banks and welfare accomplished that feat
I'm having too much fun
To work at a factory or store
I'll soon start drawing a check
I don't want to work anymore

I got family and friends
Who will help me to survive
While I'm enjoying life
With no more nine to five
I love to play games
Listen to music, I'm never bored
I do as I please
I don't wanna work anymore

I can make it OK
My life's improved so greatly
I don't remember hearing
Of anyone starving to death around here lately
If I want, I can sleep all day
I don't have necessary, daily chores
I got things figured out
I don't want to work anymore

Now I'm living a good life
And not just because I'm lazy
I know what I'm saying
May sound stupid or maybe crazy
But now I'm happily retired
Looking forward to what's in store
I don't hardly have  problems
And I don't want to work anymore

I knew that feeling, well expressed here, twenty one years ago, decided and never looked back. No regrets.
Are these the words of a song, Charles?

appreciate your comment DD. the poem is not a song, but almost everything I write is sorta lyrical. I am going to try to write some poems that don't rhyme and maybe in the style of Robert Frost.

To try something different is a good way to keep that poetic muscle alert and functioning. I couldn't sympathise more with your desire to do this.
