Black Knights

Davion Ray

A Knight serves a king, follows his every command & puts them to finalization

Swinging his sword in a rhythmic correlation of devastating slashes

Proud to serve thy kingdom with thy sword, blood covered and rough

But what happens when the wrong blood is shed?

What happens if the order is too great or vile?

Through all the blood & guts, mud & metal

Spirit loses its driving demeanor & gains a blank state

A knight's heart is tarnished with a grim & foul stench

These knights walk a road of regrets & guilts that shadow over them

Eyes motionless, a smile shifted, a body walking among a graveyard

They travel with a solitude of hurt & disgust, does redemption give?

People look at these knights with disgrace & ignominy

A black hollow that lives among the buoyant & the carefree

No burdens carried, no problems follow these citizens who are protected

Who is to say the knights can be treated as them?

Who is to say optimism is lost among those who grieve and the dishonored?

Who is to say the word humanity cannot be regained?

The vicissitudes of elation can conquer the sentiments of despondency

Redemption is never gifted, it's a road that starts with a step

A step begins with a ponder of internal forgiveness

These knights are vindications yet unjudged, mere pages out of history

They wake up with demons, roaming the earth's fertile soil for something unfound

Even though they wake up in an abyss of misery, these knights are human

They can laugh at terrible jokes, smile at chivalry, and even feel victorious again

Their lives may hold a fire too black or too great but that fire can be controlled as of any other

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this for the outcast of society, the people who have been forgotten despite all everything they've done for humanity but yet they are criticized and vanish within the lines of good and right.

I like the imagery and how symbolic this poem is. I like the representation in society.
