Family in the Flowers
Into the periwinkle walk the couple
While in the distance thunder faintly rumbles.
Morning glories climb the wall of old gray stone
That line the edge of the quiet gravel road.
Between them walks their son, a three year old.
Each, carefully, his hands lovingly hold
So that he will not trip and fall in the entwining.
In this day, clouds dim the sun’s shining.
The beautiful blue flowers cover the earth
Resembling a blue cloak cast over the dirt.
The white morning glories herald the new day.
The colors push back any thoughts of dismay,
Reminding us of the need of grace and purity
Even in these times of distressing uncertainty.
The parents stop and let loose their son’s hands
As he thoughtfully walks in this little scene of heaven,
The husband and wife tenderly embrace each other
As they smile and watch their little explorer.
He looks up to them and knows he is secure,
Living in the present, no worry for the future.
He picks some flowers and gives them this gift of grace
And somehow he understands they represent love in this place.

This is okay.It needs the characters to be named.Otherwise it has no engagement for the reader. I liked the rhyme
Thank you for the critique. I hadn't thought about naming them, but I believe you have a valid point to make it more personal.
i liked the tenderness this poem evokes, and admire how you have entwined Nature with man. thanks for sharing
