Old Country Boy

charles69

Seems like young people think I'm worthless
Crazy and no good
But I'd still be working
Ifin' I only could
Most of my friends are dead
I sometimes feel bad alone
In lots of ways I've been forgotten
Will anyone miss me when I'm gone

I ain't askin' for much of nobody's help
Not much I can't do on my own
If you find me to be disgustin'
Just leave this old country boy alone

I don't watch much TV
Sometimes listen to the radio
I still get around pretty good
But now I'm kinda slow
I think about Jesus lots more now
I still like the old time preachin' and prayin'
I believe that I've been saved
I like some of what I hear the young preachers sayin'

I ain't askin' for much of nobody's help
Not much I can't do on my own
If you find me to be disgustin'
Just leave this old country boy alone

I used to like to hunt and fish
I had a good johnson motor boat
I'll always love the red, white, and blue
I try to always go and vote
I may not be a sage
But I have some good advice
I admit I used to gamble
It's been years since I rolled the dice

I ain't askin' for much of nobody's help
Ain't much I can't do on my own
If you find me to be disgustin'
Just leave this old country boy alone

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem owes a great debt to "Long Haired Country Boy" by the late, great Charlie Daniels I agree that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
