An Unconditional Exchange of Zero

Mottakeenur Rehman

Waiting or thinking for someone,
For extended periods long,
Is not love, but akin to waiting,
For a cat to catch a rat, a longing.

Addiction to someone like cigarettes,
Can be mistaken for love, no doubt,
But time spent together isn't enough,
As sleep takes up a lot throughout.

Mere attraction is not love either,
Childhood and adolescent fantasies agree,
They too can be appealing and desirable,
But it's not the same as true love, you'll see.

Genuine love isn't physical, my friend,
Those who think so might be mistaken,
An afterlife with numerous nymphs,
Is nothing but a fantasy unshaken.

True love endures forevermore,
An unconditional exchange of zero,
Silent and serene, no sound it makes,
When it shatters, unlike a physical show.

So let us not be fooled by the facade,
Of physicality, attraction, or waiting long,
For true love is unconditional and unbreakable,
A bond that lasts forever, strong.

    Neatly poemed.
Agreed - there is nothing really to write about - that kind of love (there are others) can only be defined by what it is not - which, if I read you correctly, is what you have done here.

a great message and so well written
    thanks for sharing, dear poet
    (true love is a rarity
as, true love can only blossom
    in heart's, true to themselves
    first and foremost
we all know this, but it's too hard
to point a finger at a mirror
    'persona' reflection
that feels sorry for itself, and so
    we merely
    'act out' or romance scenes
    like we've seen on screens..
    true love is rare, indeed
but even half a glass full, of love
is enough for most to treasure
for the rest of their lives...)
