#1
As the milkweed attracts butterflies fair
The refrain of an ocean wave cries from my eyes
A warm glance dances in the air
and alights on a memory in the sky
That a persistent clock I could insist
And grip our wings to last evermore
But I find no escape from where I drift
And secure what the wind has in store
So I will do as the Monarch and migrate with you
Mournful of the flight that around us swirls
Happy in the choice that together we flew
Though desperate for more breath as my wings unfurl
That our lives are but a moment of joy sublime
Young flights to the milkweed will surely survive
#2
When I imagine heaven’s doorway
I can find no such majesty except at an ocean’s shore
Beckoning waves call to say
Do you need the earth’s delights anymore?
Of love and faith too often misplaced
I have been in debate
But to gaze upon and touch your face
Is that for which my body aches
Let the sea beguile
and even let me drift upon
But for now let me smile
As our melody continues it’s song
God made the ocean for our final island escape
And he gave us Jesus so the choice could finally take shape
