Testing Samples

Robert Isaacs Chiwala

Women, like mineral mines

Men like explorers

Exploiting beautiful places

Leaving immeasurable holes

Adorable land, laid to a waste

Women like mineral mines

Men like explorers

Digging different places

Taking numerous samples for a test

Before settling, searching for fine minerals

Women like mineral mines

Men like explorers

More extinction mines in town

Its minerals extracted for samples

Still confused, if the sought has not been found

(such a meaningful write, dear poet)
    we dig for gold
    in fields of ideology's
    nuclear wastelands of hope,
    fighting each other
for each shard of horizon, we glean
    devoid of life's suffering cadence
    ..
    'More extinction mines in town
    Its minerals extracted for samples
    Still confused,'
    but, still
there is yet grace in our fallible humanity
we need only, find a way to prevail
    and believe
    that those who follow us
    may eventually
    learn from our cyclical, mistakes
    before
mother earth, gives up on us...
