evergreen

if I could describe my love for you in only one word 

it would be evergreen 

and I know it makes no sense to you 

and it’s not because your eyes are forever green 

like the most beautiful things I've ever seen 

it’s because I truly believe I love you like an evergreen grows 

I don’t need you around constantly to know that I love you 

just like an evergreen doesn’t need constant sunlight to survive 

the evergreen will find a little bit of warmth and make due 

and all I need is the idea of you inside my head 

to know that my love for you isn’t gonna leave 

I wish I could explain why I love you 

but the list is already way too long 

I feel like an evergreen because no matter summer winter spring or fall 

I'm still gonna love you 

you could come and go like summer but like summer you always come back 

some summers are hotter than others 

but that’s how love works 

there will always be pine needles to pick up 

but I'm willing 

see sometimes I feel like you mistake me 

for the other trees have been in your life 

but not ever trees in every green 

the other trees will lose their leaves when it gets hard and cold outside 

but the evergreen 

it keeps on growing 

so like the evergreen I'm gonna keep on fighting
