~.~
There was never anything
true or righteous
about words.
Letters put together,
words joined into a sentence
to provoke interest,
emotion at best.
So easily manipulated,
so easily erased.
They thought
they were sharing and healing,
creating a sanctuary for the few.
They thought the world
could be mended,
and demons
locked away for good.
No voice,
only murmur
covered by the noise.
No salvation,
just silent screams
of broken souls.
They searched for hope
when nothingness
was the only thing
left standing.
They prayed for a miracle
when faith
was a needle
in the haystack
of memories.
And yet,
they were the only ones
left standing
when writing became
a lost trade of the past,
and was done
by AI using Copy and Paste.
Poetry was a crime
punished by death,
and yet
blood got spilled
every day.
They weren’t just words,
now vanishing in flames,
it was humanity lost
deprived of its voice.
There was never anything
true or righteous
about words
but they remained
the only thing
that made hearts bleed
and sing.

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem was written as a response to the decision of Medium publication to accept AI generated content as equal to those of an actual writer, allow publishing and earning money for AI generated content on Medium. I'm a paying member of Medium for several years now but have decide not to continue as such when my membership expires at the end of April. I refuse to support AI in writing community such as Medium and participate in diminishing writers even more.

Thanks Iva for a heads up on a situation which is only at its opening phase. What place AI will assume, along with search engines such as Google I have no idea. Good to be wary at this stage I think….
Financial gain? They will change that soon I bet…
Usual quality poetry – More on the way..?
