If I Met My Past Self

Insanely Hilarious

If I ever met my past self, I wonder what I'd say.
Would she run away or approach me?
Would I hug her and hold her and tell her I love her?
Would I tell her to be brave?

I wonder what her first question would be,
"Are you happy?" or "Are you successful?"
Would I warn her against the mistakes I made?
Or let her make them so she can be who I am today?

Would she ask me a hundred thousand questions?
Would she ask me to tell her stories?
Would she be curious about her future?
Or would she leave it a thrilling mystery?

Would she tell me about her nightmares?
Would she even trust me enough to talk?
I wonder if she'd care for my opinion.
Probably not, she never really cared about anyone's.

I know I'd be mesmerized by her,
Confused as to how much I changed.
When she'd look at me with those pretty eyes,
I'd know she's the better version of me.

Maybe we could discuss her favorite show,
Talk about her favorite book,
Maybe she could fill me in on my hazy memories,
I'd make her laugh with the cheesiest jokes.

When it's time to leave her,
I know what my parting words would be,
"Kid, be who you are, I'm proud of you,
You're the eighth wonder of the world."

      meaning?

      • L. B. Mek

'Would I warn her against the mistakes I made?
Or let her make them so she can be who I am today?'

'"Kid, be who you are, I'm proud of you,
You're the eighth wonder of the world."
(if i've not misinterpreted your poem
that kid is you and thus this a work
        of triumphant self affirmation
        ergo: 'more power to you')
not sure what was lost in translation
        but just to be precise
i thought your poem was a 'lovely' read
        thank you for sharing
