Few are cold in the game of rap
I'm starting to see the audacity
Those who don't deserve a clap
Put together in the CEO factory
Triple Ice, Cube and T are more than nice
Now we have one whose name is Spice
Another planted fraud
Lyricism now doesn't win any award
People really listen to this shit of their own accord?
More like Vanilla Spice
Looking like an Annie reboot
Record companies don't ask
They just shoot

just sad,
from MC Lyte, Lisa 'left eye', Da Brat, Missy, Eve, Nikki
... to this
and just as depressing on male side
Nas, was right
'Hip Hop is DEAD!
Completely agree, it's all about dumbing down the masses. All the giant record companies bought the independent ones like Rawkus etc. and the giant labels have ties to the Government. Not sure if you've read my Secret Hip-Hop meeting poem, which talks about the meeting the prison owners had with the record industry?
no but i'll look it up today, and yes I agree
it's a top-down issue, not a lack of talent issue
people want to factory belt, produce
anything with mass appeal
yet, that thing's - appeal
originated in it's independent spirit
and championing of uniqueness
... 'dumbing down', indeed
'hip hop', now
just another flavour of 'pop'
sorry bro, need you to help me with a link to your secret hip-hop poem
i went back 10 pages but still couldn't find it
It's terrible isn't it, apologies, it appears I didn't post it on this website, was convinced that I did. Here it is -
The Secret Hip-Hop Meeting
Mainstream Hip-Hop I used to listen to a lot
I want some of these new rappers to stop
It all makes sense
Why there's no longer any substance
There was a secret meeting in the early 2000's
Between the record labels and prison system
Some have spoken up about this but nobody listen
Conscious rap no longer on the radio
Ever wonder where did it go?
The powers that be don't want your mind to grow
It's the same dumbed down scenario
Keep the masses thick and stupid
While making a few more quid
Look at what you did
Living in a real life Gangstas Paradise
R.I.P Coolio
It's nothing nice
They sell you on the guns, chains, drugs and planes
But the reality is more strange
Manipulated beef and rivals
Cleanse yourself out with sage
In other words don't follow these false idols
Use your own brain
Inner thoughts of self are vital
The biggest artists are controlled in the rap game
The underground and truth speakers where it's at
The rappers who don't compromise
And are not living so fat
I can't understand and relate to what these labels pushing mate
Mumbling autotune druggies
Look at the state
What poetic transparency, distilling
Societies insidious, hypocrisy
Do you know, dear thoughtful Poet
Prison's, estimate
How much 'space' they need
Ten years, in advance?!?
They do this, by taking the reading and writing
Test scores of middle schoolers
or 6 to 8 years olds...?!?
... so yeah, what you say makes
perfectly vile sense, to me
thank you! for sharing such an impassioned write
I heard that yes, crazy isn\'t it. I think Killer Mike also rhymes about that on the last Run The Jewels album. It\'s as though they are making things so difficult on people recently so some turn to crime. An honest living is like being shacked in chains but I believe in God and think things will get better eventually. Thanks for the kind comments.
Important topic to tackle dear poet-I’m still optimistic about this genre and it’s evolution-There are still amazing hip hop artists with more outlets now-
I agree, it is just sad to see toxic rappers getting praised while the real lyricists who don't sellout are forced to stay underground.
True-And worse is the cultural appropriation-thank you for writing about this on your poetry
I agree, thanks for reading (:
