I Never Chose To Be Rude

Robert Isaacs Chiwala

To be quiet

Is not my choice

I am just trying -

To be responsible

I was born rude

Taunts and ridicules

Run through my veins -

It is just my DNA

Sometimes it is out of control

No matter how hard I try

Mostly subconsciously done

There is nothing I can do

I was talkative when I was small

I never minded being rude

Even though it was unintentional

Always thought it was normal

Now grown -being responsible

Realising it is inevitable

I am always rude when I talk

I have to be quiet for goodness sake.

    dear Poet
do you know, what that 'A'
    in our DNA, stands for...?
    that's right, built-in
    right into our inherited
    survival traits
    is our natural, component
    of acid, intent
    that silence, as our acidic
    tool
we have it in us, to utilise
    our self contained, choice
    to fight
    wordlessly...!
