The World

sasherington

The world in the present

Is so different from the past

Memories that used to stay

Now never last

Society is ever-changing

So is the world

But the only thing that hasn’t changed

Is the injustice

Always being hurled

At those who don’t deserve it

At those who suffer pain

Those who can’t get water

Places that never rain

While the government sits in their polished high chairs

Turning their heads away

While the world ends,

The government stays

While the world is torn apart

Our hearts still remain

The thing that bounds us all together

The thing that hurts us most

We are on a game show

And the government is our host

On social media

Hoax after hoax

For the world is a crimson ghost

The past haunts us,

As does the present

Our animals rapidly lessen

Stop thinking

Start talking

Stop standing

Start doing

The world is still going

But it needs some improving

Change the world in its state of decay

So protect the earth

Know its worth.

Don’t let it fade away.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this poem a couple days ago. To me, I’ve noticed that the world is struggling, with climate change constantly appearing through natural disasters, deforestation, oil spills, endangered animals, global warming and the ongoing wars. With my poem I wanted to show this, and spread the word so we can nurse the Earth back to health little steps at a time.

    Good write S.
I think it's neither the 'bad old days' nor 'the good old days'. Some things change, but some things never change.
