I loved her deeply, with all my heart and soul
But she chose someone else, and now I'm left alone
My love was pure, honest and true
But it wasn't enough to make her choose me too
I watched as she went to him, with a smile on her face
And it felt like a dagger, piercing my heart with disgrace
I couldn't understand, what did he have that I lacked?
Why did she choose him over me, when I loved her back?
I cried myself to sleep, night after night
Wondering what I could have done to make things right
But the truth was, it wasn't about me
It was about her heart, and who she wanted to be
So I must accept that she's chosen another
And try to move on, from my love for her
But the pain will linger, deep inside my chest
For the love I had for her, will never truly rest
I'll always remember the way she made me feel
And the love that I had, that was so very real
But now it's time to say goodbye, and let her be
For her happiness, and her heart's desire, are not for me.

- Comment from author about the poem: One-sided love, also known as unrequited love, is a type of love in which one person has romantic feelings for someone who does not feel the same way. This can be a very painful and difficult experience, as the person who is in love may feel rejected and unloved.

This is a beautifully well written and touching poem. Sometimes things are not meant to be. I often felt this way before I met my husband of 20+ years. Keep on loving and writing.
Thank you for your words of appreciation.
As saying goes "Every love is not mends to forever and every distance doesn't means they don't love each other"
Glad to hear that you have finally found your wonderful man.
Many a man scoffs at the thought of being a romantic, but love for one woman will be his biggest weakness, while also his greatest strength. Well penned Oni. 😉
Thank you Accidental Poet☺️
Everyone becomes powerless when we love someone too much
Sometimes the need for love is more than the need to be without love. In my case that's especially true. 😉
