I Promise

rayVanco1

I promise to fight until the pain recedes, until the hold that renders me lifeless sets me free.

I promise to dream that I evade the dark.

I come close but my sorrow leaves a trail.

I promise to hang onto the past because the now screams inside of me.

I promise I was afraid that I’d take comfort in the darkness that holds me. I’ve been in pain so long, I do.

I promise to look past my despair and listen for clarity. I can’t hear anything but the ache of my heart. Can you?

I promise if I knew the pain would be this bad, I'd fight the same as I already do.
