Rhine

Joakim Bergen

Splendid flo'ers of Spring

Sail the river Rhine,

They hark wind's call;

Obey this po'er divine.

Roseate clouds still the sky

Within my mortal eye,

And ev'ry song seems as mine

When I sail the Rhine;

Its gentle current rocks my boat

As mother does her child;

Forest's shade becomes my coat,

Down the river Rhine.

Light plays in groves of greene,

Lures the birds out their homes;

This choir of eternal Spring

Blessed my little boat and me;

The Sun bids farewell -

Strows its saffron gems

'Cross the em'rald gel

Of the river Rhine.

    So much history, beauty, and conflict surrounds that river. Beautiful imagery my friend.
