300

Shaunmatthewcpoetry

This is Sparta!
No need for cumbersome armour
Torsos of death
Taking each Persian's last breath
Pretty soon there will be none left
Two Kings became bitter enemies
Leonidas Vs Xerxes
A true Spartan never flees

      Haha!

Was you and I there too? That would make it 302.
Ooh, I dunno. Nice and British and quaint. Wouldn't like to meet one of them 300 on one of their bad days. lol.

I'd admire that Spartan lore, more
if it wasn't for that whole
        murdering your kid
cos it ain't aesthetically perfect, thing
kinda like, selective breeding to me
        but
yeah, that whole never say quit
        warrior element is great
but, then again that horse trick
depicts Spartan's as a little, dim
        ...
        (still, Virgil constructed
        an entire Roman empire's identity
        from that Troy legacy, so
who am I to marginalise or ridicule)
        lol

Well written poem about a movie poet friend, but

Speaking of Hollywood, 300 was a cartoonish and ignorant movie about biased historic events-Even the screen writer admitted that he wrote this in the style of a comic book.
Xerxes was the ruler of one of the greatest ancient civilizations, but all accounts were written by Greek historians after invaders like Alexander “the Great” looted and burned Persian libraries-

I also invite you to search for the images of Palace of Xerxes in Persepolis which shows his relief which is nothing like the comic book half naked monster version of this fascist minded depiction

Thanks, I will have a look.

It’s great to be in this space with open and receptive poet people.
