Standards

Kat Da Poet

“You’re too skinny.

You’re too fat.

You need make-up.

No, be more natural.

You eat too much.

You eat too little.

You won’t achieve anything.

Why don’t you share your success?”

What should I do?

I don’t want to change.

I’m human too.

So why am I so strange?

I don’t want to live up to expectations.

I just want to be myself.

I can make my own limitations.

Now put those words back on a shelf.

“You are so fat,

You are so thin.”

No, my name is Kat.

And I feel great in my skin.

Look into my eyes.

What do you want with me?

I won’t listen to your lies.

I’ve already set myself free.

It doesn’t matter what I am on the outside.

I don’t care about anyone’s appearance.

Now put those standards far aside.

Now tell me, doesn’t that make a difference?
