My Giant

Tayama

The seat is so big I see my knees but not my feet…

Yet seems so small for him…

Only a little light gets in…

Hes a giant my friends always said…

He smiles as my little legs dance in the air…

The peace I feel as his smoke swirls in the air, with not a care…

How could I ever replace this moment of joy?

For we are going to get a new toy…

Will I remember his presence when I’m old like Him?

Or the smell of his cologne?

Son,” I man must smell nice”, he always said…

With his eyes piecing my heart hidden by that hat on his head…

Were almost home and there is mom…

She always waits outside when she hears his car…

Not mad, but with a big smile that he always said, “your mother breaks my heart.”

Here it comes…” My men are home, let’s eat.”

Fathers form their sons into the men that awaits them to be…

My wife says they broke the mold when they made me.

My son cries in the nursery…

But he’s ok...

For over his crib is a big, smiling man holding a crying boy…

A picture mom took when I fell out of the tree…

And I knew then what a man was to be…

A giant that loves his children so hard, fear runs and hides…

My dad was the mold…I, a little piece that broke off, and a piece of that…

Awaits my son.

For he is, like my dad told me I was…my pride.

When I rock him to sleep some nights, I will often hold him a bit too tight...

He never minds, just nestles in a little closer...

And for the briefest of moments, I feel my father’s arms around me…

And he would say, “son I could not love you more.”

Dad, I know, and I promise to love your grandson as you loved me…

Like the giant who was and is everything to me.
