If Only

Accidental Poet

Like so many times before

You come haunting my thoughts

Sweet images of you

My heart lovingly bought

And like a wave across my face

The smile that grows

I can’t hold back the feeling

Or the look of love that shows

I imagine your voice

Suddenly in my ears

The sweetest voice I’ve ever known

Almost drives me to tears

Words of tender love

Of how you’ve missed me

The memories of many years ago

Wishing so much more we could be

That look in your eyes

The touch of your hand on mine

And upon your lips

My lips there I find

But I know it’s just a fantasy

A daily occurrence

True love’s test of time

Of my heart’s endurance

And most would think of me

A man sad and lonely

But you’re my reason to smile

If only
