I Deserve the Cold

AuburnScribbler

If I have hell within me,

then I must provide;

you with a reason why,

that I should have died,

thus, with natural humility,

I shall not disappoint,

when you see me crying,

my laughter will disjoint,

more things out of proportion,

to keep the scene in check,

where, it’s right that you whip me,

and I a nervous wreck,

so, do not give me warmth,

torment me, ‘til I’m old,

take the right to defend myself,

for I deserve the cold,

I ache, to live in an alien world,

it’s yours, so execute,

as when the moment, I am gone,

all will be resolute.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Bit of a darker one, this one. With so many hurtful things happening around the world, and with so much frustrating division and dissatisfaction, it sometimes begs these questions to be asked: Can we call ourselves good? Do we deserve to call Earth our home? If these rhetorical questions are up in the air, so is this one: do I/you/we/they deserve the cold? An awful lot of people are being left behind, due to sub par deeds made by organizations that are supposed to help, but maybe, just maybe, the fact I think at least, that if I'm a part of the species, that is the root of all this hurt, then perhaps sometimes, I DO deserve the cold. In these modern times, we live too proudly, in the "bright light, praise whatever's popular age", granted, pat yourself on the back when it's appropriate, but remember, you cannot employ "cancel culture" to get rid of this fact: humanity is to blame, for humanity's grievances, as we are powered by a cancerous inherent need to be greedy. So, to any proud YouTubers, bloggers, "influencers" or anyone who thinks the sun shines out of their arse, it doesn't, and never will do! Accept that sometimes like me, because of your nature, you too, sometimes, deserve the cold. I suppose in a nutshell, I'm saying nobody's perfect, but we are living in a time, where "poster children" of today, think they're untouchable, and it really annoys me! I think that the banner picture accompanying the poem is appropriate, as the constant struggle of human endeavour is very much like treading open water, but as you can see by the picture, the struggle can be too much. Sorry for the rant, I hope that you enjoy the poem, I hope that you live with a certain understanding, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

Despite it's "slap in the face" tone, I had to write this poem orchidee, to get it off my chest and thank you for reading it.

A "cold shoulder" right back at you, hahaha!

I hope that all is well.
