Daffodils

Joakim Bergen

Merry flowers, divinely soft, you

Earthbound angels, whose splendid

Color, proudly displayed in Sping's

Light, shames e'en Night's sky-bound

Jewelry!

Pray for me cherubs of the meadow,

Raise your sweet, meek voices to

Heaven; seek Father, whose beloved

Offspring you be; oh, you divinities,

Who garland His court of marble

With your shining yellow dresses,

Call upon Him; may he bless me

And my land; the be-jeweld sea

And moody mountains, verdant

Forests and fields of gold; e'en

Upon the cities may he smile.

Spare Him no prayer, spare Him

No thought; seek Him as you seek

The light of dawn!
